Due to the ongoing situation with COVID-19, the Government of Canada announced this week it is extending leave provisions for employees beyond the original deadline of April 10, 2020. To continue supporting our people, we are aligning with this approach.
We are therefore extending paid Special Leave for employees who are dealing with school and daycare closures, and caring for elderly parents who previously had care that is no longer available. Effective immediately, team leaders can now approve Special Leave for child care and elder care until further notice. It is important for team leaders to continue to enter the appropriate leave in SAP for their employees (note for team leaders: a separate message will follow on updated coding requirements for Special Leave).
We will keep employees informed about how long the Special Leave will remain in effect. Employees needing assistance for child care and elder care should talk to their team leader and continue seeking alternative care arrangements. We have included information on child-care options that are available in provinces and territories for essential workers, including Canada Post employees.
If Special Leave is needed for child care or elder care, here is our updated approach:
- First use any remaining personal days.
- Team leader may approve Special Leave until further notice.
