Understanding the offer: Hourly rate of pay (RSMC)

July 9, 2025, 02:18 pm 11 comments

Canada Post is providing employees with the information they need to make an informed choice when it comes time to vote on the company’s final offers to CUPW.

New information on the offers website

We’ve added new information to the offers site at canadapost.ca/offers:

Fact sheet and video on hourly rate of pay for RSMC employees:

  • Did you know RSMC employees will move to an hourly rate of pay after routes are restructured? Routes will be restructured under the new RSMC workload measurement system in phases over the next few years.
  • Once an employee’s office is restructured, they will use the current bidding process to bid on routes and positions. The hourly rate of pay will correspond to the route holder’s current pay progression level.
  • Route holders will have schedules with regular start and end times, as well as scheduled rest and meal periods, as applicable. Employees who work more than their daily scheduled hours will be paid for time worked above their scheduled hours, including at overtime rates, as applicable.

Video on total compensation and benefits for RSMC employees:

  • Watch a video with three key facts to help you understand your total compensation and benefits.
  • You can also read our fact sheet on your total compensation and benefits.

About the vote

As a CUPW-represented employee, you will have the opportunity to vote on the offer for your bargaining unit. If approved, the offer would become your new collective agreement.

This comes after a year and a half of discussions with CUPW, the assistance of established mediators, four global offers and an Industrial Inquiry Commission hearing and report. This vote gives employees the opportunity to have a voice, especially as we begin to implement needed changes for the postal system.

The vote will be conducted by the Canada Industrial Relations Board. We will share information about when and how to vote as soon as it’s available.

  • I believe all RSMC’s that voted ‘Yes’ to hourly wage have screwed us all. Letter carriers basically make as much (within Pennie’s – look at the new ranges chart for letter carriers & RSMC’s) as RSMC’s & have no vehicle expenses (that are not covered by the little amount for vehicles – barely covers gas & oil changes)
The Union has done well by RSMC’s in the early days but have done nothing since. Having set hours to come in & finish times (with hourly rates) takes away all great things about being an RSMC !!
When we vote, we r in a rock & a hard place as the only thing the Union did was get CP to agree to hourly .. which is the worst thing for RSMC’s. Good 4 CP though

  • I’m here for a PAY check period full stop YES YES YES

  • It’s a dilemma.
How can RSMC’s expect to work four hours a day and expect to be paid for eight?
And as for Canada Post wanting to hire part timers to do weekend delivery of parcels? What parcels? They are out of the parcel business for good now. So that raises some questions about their motives.
I used to think a unionized job was a good one, until I learned the hard way that where there is a unionized environment, it is that way precisely because there is a long history of abuse and exploitation.
I also learned the hard way that when push comes to shove, the union will do very little for you.
    Be careful how you vote.
Do what is right for YOU. And start looking for another job.
    Good luck.

  • People are within the right to vote Yes but if you do then you will be paid less for more work, supervisors will become taskmasters at the bidding of the corporation, and you will be delegated work at their convenience. If we don’t vote no then we will become corporate slaves and that’s not an overstatement. That’s exactly what CPC wants. You’re trying to wear us down so that will take a stupid deal and give them all the control and once they have it will never regain it. Please be smart with your vote and think of the union as a whole and not just yourself.

  • Definitely NO. We will be back where we were 20 years ago as RSMCs if CPC has its way

    • That’s the problem, all you No pushers think still think we are living it the past. There’s very little mail and no one wants to ship parcels with us because the union could strike at any time. Changes need to be made.

  • I will opt for YES

  • I will go for “YES”

  • Emperor Palpatine

    No more early starts.

  • Still a bad offer. Vote NO
