CUPW negotiations: Statement from Canada Post

December 7, 2024, 01:32 pm 483 comments

Canada Post is surprised by public comments made by CUPW regarding our counter proposal as we have made significant moves to close the gap on key issues like weekend delivery, pensions and wages and bring much-needed urgency to the discussions.

We are currently operating within a confidential process, which was agreed to by both parties. With the movements we’ve made, we would have preferred to hear from CUPW through that process, rather than cause additional concern for our customers and employees. We have not yet received a formal response from CUPW through the mediators. Given the urgency and the ongoing impact of CUPW’s national strike, we hope to hear back today.

Canada Post has continued to put forward fair offers that are focused on our customers and our employees – improving service to grow our parcel business, while protecting and enhancing what our employees have today.

With the impact of their strike on employees and customers mounting after three weeks, CUPW remains persistent in their demands to represent people outside their bargaining unit, such as making our cleaning staff, and other contracted support services, permanent Canada Post employees.

  • This strike hurts canadian retirees who receive pension from foreign countries.
Very upset nothing protects retired and or disabled seniors and patients, so that strikes dont stop critical mail

  • I have been searching on line for some information from the union side and the only thing that pops up on google is information from Canada post??? Why is that? I support the strike, when I looked at their wages (not much higher than min wage)and see Justin Trudeau traveling the world on our dime, plus, plus, plus… they should get a substantial wage as well have job security. I spoke to a striker and they said no one is reporting on one very key issue which is job security, Canada post wants to bring in automation which would eliminate jobs. Plus the fact that Canada Post is not acting in good faith as they lay off multiple staff, which is against the law. I hope that this Liberal Government can try and put its people first for a change.

    • I am against this strike. The union has a weird sense of entitlement. We’ve lost so much already. The public is definitely not on our side. Please gov’t step in!

  • Sadly the Union &!postal worker membership failed to recognize the step change that’s happened the past 10 years in delivery services.
Other courier, parcel, private services have been created to compete with each other, including Canada Post. CP was well aware it is to be profitable “without subsidies” from government. The liberals did no favours by eliminating the conversion to Community Mail boxes everywhere. What a mistake. It only delayed the need to create a more efficient way of doing business. It’s time to adapt, be flexible. Unions included.

    • So you are saying that the workers should be the ones that pay for managements missed opportunities and poor decisions. Good to know you are for absolute minimum wage, no benefits or pension because someone making more than the prime minister is driving a public service into the ground so that his other company(purolator) can profit. Yes look it up the ceo of Canada post is also on the executive board of purolator.

  • Can these strikes not happen before Christmas?

All my support minus the timing.

  • Union members are gona lose here huge. Their union is out of touch with reality considering most unions have been settling in the 3% range per yr. Probably a good time to vote out your executive after this disaster which has miscalculated and hurt its own huge.

    • Ok negative nanny

      Plz
      Be strong
Our union reps warned us to try to put money away a year ago

That this negotiation cud b long

      Stay the course
      Hold the line

      • Glad that they knew they were putting Canada post in such a hard position a year ago.
I agree that wages don’t reflect inflation. Unfortunately, you’re going to lose your jobs in the coming years. This strike put unnecessary pressure on an already struggling company. They were already projected to be out of money by the start of 2025. Now there employees decided to strike before the most profitable part of the year. What a joke, accept 15% and allow part time workers on the weekend. Help yourselves out by ensuring Canada post is dead in 5 years

      • Sadly, putting money away when you.vanbarely.afford to get to work isn’t realistic. Single income family of 2, mortgage, car, medicine, food every second day

  • Seriously, the union needs to represent whoever is CURRENTLY paying the union dues AND Canada Post needs to play it fair and optimize their top-heavy structure. Can someone do something?

  • Prisoners of the union

    • The public is definitely not on the workers and union side. We want this done with any never to happen again. Can we sell off cp and make it private? Enough of the spoiled entitled behaviour.

  • Call your Federal MP

The Government can put a stop to this strike! Like they did to CN/CP and dock workers. Only difference is that BIG business is not hurting they have means to go outside of Canada Post! Amazon is loving the CUPW strike as they can make millions the longer this strike goes on! Only the small and middle businesses, with general public along with employees are hurting. Liberals can stop this strike if they get enough calls.

  • This will be a waste of time. The only people that will lose out is the employees by the time they regain the wages they’ve lost it will take years CANADA POST will hang tight this time and not cave to cupw demands. The busiest time of the year for CANADA POST has been slaughtered already. The strike will go on for quite some time just my two cents.

  • This is all rigged like everything else that has been happening to destroy our country. Unions go hand in hand with government and pretend to be working for the employees benefit. I feel very sorry for the employees striking.

  • CanadapostStrikeStop

all Canadian people should sue for damages, for not receiving documents, payment, etc.

    • Agreed!
There are small businesses that may lose their entire business because of this. They rely on Christmas to make their year end and give their employees bonuses. Now they have to lay off people who need the money, they won’t make their profit to pay their suppliers, and how about the people who live in NWT having to tell their kids they won’t have presents this year because of the union.

  • Anonymous frustrated

It’s impressive how long they have taken; it’s frustrating and disappointing. We are in the fourth week without salary and benefits, and we need to get back to work. They are ruining Christmas for all Canadians and for the postal workers who need the money. Ten-year-old children are more capable of resolving conflicts; CUPW and CP they are acting like small children. And from what I see, we won’t be back before Christmas. Hopefully, a miracle happens.

    • I think you are right I don’t think you will be back before Christmas. The Christmas season, which is kind of post busiest season has been broken beyond Repair. It will cost employees quite a bit of money for the Strike CANADA POST has lost way too much money to cave into the bands And if they do be ready for privatization next contract.

    • Maybe they will get rid of Canada post altogether.

  • Essential service. Full stop

  • The government should have stepped in long ago it s gone on long enough

  • 1 question..!
Have you ever seen CUPW support any sort of employee promotion ‘upward’…?
Without losing ‘everything’ (rank, friendships etc) first, of course.
    Case in point!
    Seriously, think about it 🤔
Just more people this time 😒

  • This strke will end many small businesses who rely on the critical weeks up until Christmas to make sales. Those that will survive will seek alternatives for their deliveries, meaning Canada Post will lose more customers, go further into debt, and eventually lay off more workers.

  • You are absolutely correct.. And YES to DECERTIFY the union for all the games they’re playing and nonsense they’ve included in our negotiations. I hope everyone comes together to understand we want to work and the union has made a mess, and pissed off the membership, small business and Canadians.

    • Notice that the gov’t says that they will not intervene. I honestly think that they are out to teach CUPW a tuff lesson. Don’t mess with Big Brother!

      • You get that CUPW never wants the government to take away the right to strike or impose binding arbitration, right? It’s CPC that wants that.

The only way the government should intervene is for the “responsible” ministers to tell the CEO to stop intimidating workers and negotiate in good faith to reach a deal.

In the present situation, they might also do their jobs by proposing (not legislating) a temporary ceasefire that would get us back to work and get the mail moving while both parties go back to the table to reach a negotiated settlement.

        • If it will save our jobs and keep the company afloat, then please take away our right to strike. It is an essential service afterall, believe it or not.

          • Not. Federal essential services are defined in the Federal Public Sector Labour Relations Act, which does not apply to Canada Post. The Canada Labour Code (which does apply) has no provision for essential services, nor for taking away the right to a legal strike. That’why they need special laws to do it.

Imposing binding arbitration will not keep the company afloat. Negotiated solutions between parties that understand the complex operational and staffing issues will, if it is ever left to happen. (The last negotiated contract was in 2007.) A CEO who treats the workforce as partners rather than adversaries might help too.

          • The current version of cupw and cpc will never agree on anything. Send it to an arbitrator.

          • @Facts Matter Weren’t posties allowed to work during Covid? What’s the difference now?

  • As a postal worker, it makes me angry to see Canada Post and CUPW play chicken with our lives.
Both have been leaking to the media of about each other’s counter proposals and throwing temper tantrums on air like yesterday on CTV.
How can self proclaimed professional negotiators behave in such a childish manner on television to make us postal workers look like crybabies.
We just want to go back to work without all the drama.
We are all suffering and it is very painful to see the job I take pride in doing being destroyed by such immaturity on both sides of the dispute.

    • Maybe they could take a couple of days off of playing chicken to work out a temporary ceasefire in which CUPW suspends the general strike until sometime in January, the collective agreement (with vital health coverage) is restored, and the parties go back to the table to work out a deal during the ceasefire.

If they don’t, all bets are off and both parties can exercise any action under the Canada Labour Code.

      • Sides are moving Closer

Facts Matter:. CUPW cannot reverse a strike because CUPW is locked out by Canada Post. …Probably to put more financial pressure on strikers who could lengthen a strike with rotating strikes

    • I agree with you 💯. My husband is a letter carrier also. I pray it’s over soon.

  • Has anyone told CP and cupw that Christmas is a little more than 2 weeks away? They should both agree to send the PW’s back to work under the old agreement, while they go back to the table and work out a deal. That way the customer will get their mail, packets, medicine, parcels, passports etc The PW’s can get back to work. CP can make money and a deal can be reached.

  • I am upset but not surprised to know about the brainless tactics this union is using. Case in point, why would this union want to sign contracted cleaners employed by Canada Post.? It is brainless because you have to ask yourself why? The cleaning staff is NOT AN ARMY of people that will give the union tons of money, and most importantly, THEY DO NOT want to be part of the union. The union’s national office is trying to make the same mistake they made when they brought in the RMSC. These RSMC’s were forced to join the union and to this date, they still believe that they were better off before.
And do you think the cleaners can be properly represented when the union cannot even represent us??
Outrageous!! I am sure they would create another strike against our wishes and make us lose wages to help others. We need to de-certify this union soon.

    • In my town the cleaner who does the Canada Post office is also the one who cleans our Service Canada building and they bid on the contract to do it. I know the guy we had at the time does not want to be any part of a union as he considered himself as self employed
Things may have changed since COVID with a new person but who knows .

  • Can someone please explain why the members don’t get to see each offer by CP? Normally your representative has a fiduciary duty to present each offer, why is it different with CUPW?

  • To those who want to vote on CPC “proposals”, please read before commenting, There is a deal between the union and the CPC to keep these “offers” and “counter offers” secret. By the way there is no “offer” from CPC which we can vote on. There was a “proposal”, however. The only “offer” was a 11.5% raise over 4 years, 7 days parcel delivery and SSD.

    • They’ve made an offer including better wages but because the union keeps changing the demands they with hold that information. Do you remember the last negotiation we had a final offer..? Ask yourself why we didn’t get one this time, because the union wants to profit off this negotiation with added demands. Multiple offers and all we get is negative comments from CUPW, let’s see the truth, who’s really lying, no filters nothing to hide and all transparency, but guess what CUPW will never let us see, because we will know the truth. 40+ years of failed negotiations says enough.

  • I’m done shipping C-Post , UPS is a little more but faster and will get my business…. I tried Purolator but they failed miserably and several accounts. I’m sure I’m not alone

  • Your current job doesn’t care about you. You only get paid enough to kill your dreams.

  • “we are surprised about cupw making public comments” says Canada post in one of their many public comment releases…….

  • I am one of the 5% that did not vote for strike action. I believe we have the worst union representing us. I would like to get unifor or teamsters to be our union, they get the job done. I voted not to strike just for this reason. We as the employees have no rights when it comes to these negotiations. Do any of you know besides the first two offers from CP what the new offer is. The union does not share or let us vote on the offers. What is CP offering ? What is CUPW counter offers?
Shouldn’t we the members get a say since we pay close to $100 / month on dues.
This strike is going to kill us all. No money , no benefits, no life and during Christmas. The public don’t realize that we the workers don’t decide on the outcome and that we get no pay and no benefits.

    • They have been proven time and again to be the worst and most militant union in Canada. They have literally settled two contracts (not counting the Covid extension) since 1965. They only care about being ‘right’ and not compromising. They don’t really care about the 55,000 workers outside in the cold. We’re about to lose a months pay to support our great leaders at CUPW. I hope everyone who voted for a strike is happy. I guess CUPW supporters don’t need money. I know if the great majority would live to see and vote in Canada Post’s latest offer. If only we were ‘allowed’ to by our great leadership.

    • There is no new offer

    • Nicely done
I’m ashamed to admit that I was bamboozled at the strike vote. I said yes, not knowing the unions true intentions. They only really talked about our wage. A raise sounded nice. Marone a Mia, I’m. A sucker

    • Unifor will screw us as bad as CUPW like they screwed the auto workers in Oshawa. Teamsters is fair and treats their members with respect and fight fairly, having unifor is like having CUPW, don’t spread misinformation that they’re better because they will drain us of our union dues worse.

    • Same here. Very true!
We are basically the employer of the Union. In the real world if the employer isn’t happy with the employees..or they are to many… simply wiped out.

    • I agree with you our union is terrible i wish to move on from them

    • CP workers should organize a protest against CUPW

  • Canada post will choose the easiest Choice that requires the least amount of work.

We need to put pressure on the Minister of Public Services and Procurement, is the minister responsible for Canada Post.
Is there Not A post offices in his riding…Canada Post has not received a raise for all the work we do for the federal Government since 2020. Tell him We Need our Money and to unshackle CPC from regulations.

  • Let us employees vote on CPC’s proposal so we can get back to work.

    • There has been no new offer. Just CPC delaying things by making unreasonable requests.

      • There has been no new offer. Just CUPW delaying things by making unreasonable requests.

      • CUPW making useless demands to line their pockets, CPC is not delaying anything. Are you clueless to what CUPW included..? Senior check ins, cleaning services, EV Chargers, another failed attempt at Postal Banking, are you that clueless..? What do those things have to do with the membership..? It’s the union stalling and posting videos on YouTube and media before saying anything to us.. Shake your head, CPC pays your bills and CUPW is costing business losses and in result you’ll see layoffs, you can be first since you support the useless union so much..

    • Agree 100%. The union won’t agree on anything and we have to pay for it.

    • When they give us something to vote on.

  • One thing should be clear
The whole union negotiations era and the top of the food chain in CUPW should be fired after this debacle

  • well over my 35 plus years being legislated back to work with less false than what cp offered the gov. rolled back the wage offer 3 times lost our severance an our sick time what’s left.just glad I don’t have to fight for an inadequate union anymore .it was alot better managed when it was lcuc

    • Yes outside is different than inside. They have national association of Letter carriers union in the states. I was in LCUC and had PSSA pension now a lot worse. There is no pride in job.Not needed but legislate we need them to get back to work? Businesses need cheaper shipping but Canada post loses it’s the union fault.

  • Some interesting comments from both sides of the fence
This situation can be unclouded if we, the membership got to view each and every offer that is presented
CUPW should be held accountable to its membership by having its current membership decide their own futures
It is the current membership that is suffering
What ever way the vote goes, YES or No , it is the membership that should decide what WE want, noy what CUPW wants for us

  • Get rid of different groups. RSMC, Group 1, 2, 3 etc. Only thing restricting any worker from doing work in any area should be TRAINING. But otherwise, a worker should be a worker. Compartmentalizing duties is a tremendous waste of labour cost.

Get rid of permanent M-F relief positions. Temporarily backfill these folks behind weekend Permanent PT positions with pre assigned weekday rdos so that they can assist with covering absences on the weekdays until atrician opens up enough full time M-F routes for them to be moved into.

Use cassuals to cover all absences. They can still be put behind long terms. Heck, even have a number of relief assignments that are long term. But the corp should have flexibility to not have trapped hours when absenteism is low.

Focus on getting a big wage increase, a massive increase to benefits, and protecting pension. For current and future members.

But you need to realize that you could probably get a 30% wage increase, benefits, pension, if you gave up a lot of the wasted labour costs the company has in maintaining a fixed number of permanent relief… having dedicated people that sort some items but dont sort others… and any ridiculous idea of demanding more 5 day a week positions to cover the 2 days of the week we currently dont deliver on.

    • What about the licensed mechanics and millwrights in group 3.

      • Any position should have requirements of training for anyone to ‘bid’.

In some cases, the position will require trades certificates and also merit additional pay. So you can still have an appendix explaining that. But in terms of who can touch what types of mail, etc. Bunch of nonsense.

  • Janitors and snow plowing???

Just to be clear. NONE of this has ANYTHING to do with the members you represent in this negotiation CUPW. But maybe it should be.

If anything. Canada Post SHOULD just add cleaning to duties for when there is down time. Same goes for the corporate vehicle. Keep it clean! Take pride.

How about giving the carrier a shovel and some salt for when they get to a cmb site?

No need to contract in ANYTHING.

    • they already do give us tools to manage our cmbs and clear the snow. you don’t have your very own bag of cat litter?

      • Contractors are paid to clear snow, do lock changes etc in a lot of areas. Not sure where you work.

Contractors are paid to clean corporate vehicles too. Drivers of other companies take pride and clean their own trucks.

        • just because a contractor is paid to do something doesn’t make me do it. and management doesn’t make sure they do it either and then as the employee you tell the manager the contractor hasn’t done their job and they make you prove it, while handing you a bag of cat litter

        • I have been clear my vehicle on my own for years. Snow contractors have been useless in clearing off the snow off my vehicle and path.
Why have snow clearance contractors when you end up doing it yourself?
Union has screwed on this issue.

  • Gee, i wonder when any other industry got a 25% general increase in wage + +, in a sector that’s lagging when mail is becoming less preferred, packages are couriered or Amazon is used.
A company that also just spent millions finally getting new vehicles and trying to relevant, and last I heard was running in a deficit.
But let’s squeeze the stone some more.

    • I wonder when any other industry gives bonuses to executives for reporting massive losses. This whole ‘we need to cut back’ thing might be less nonsensical if management set the example.

I wonder when any other industry gets to report investments as expenses in order to create or inflate losses. (In the private sector, that’s called “tax fraud”.)

I wonder when any other industry retains good workers who are in demand by refusing to catch up to inflation after four years of increases at half the rate of inflation for that time.

Btw, it’s not 25%, it’s 22% (23.79% compounded). And we know we won’t get that, just as CPC knows it won’t be 11.5% either. That’s how wage negotiations work.

    • City workers, everywhere.

      • Cities are not industries.

        • They are government employees paid WELL above their demand in skill to serve the public. Just like postal workers. CPC is not a private business.

          • CPC is a crown corporation, not a government department.

In any case, I was replying to a post that referred to “any other industry” and a follow-up reply that mentioned city workers.

An industry is “a group of manufacturers or businesses that produce a particular kind of goods or services.”

CPC competes with other corporations in the parcel delivery industry. Cities are not an industry.

  • Let’s face it, the company doesn’t want permanent workers. This weekend nonsense is a very easy fix.

You either have a few relief positions per depot (depending on size and need) that work Sunday to Thursday and Tuesday to Saturday, or you make them actual positions that are filled.

    Stop playing games.

  • You are missing the point. The mail service is antiquated and in this day and age, almost irrelevant. It is an artifact of an era of the past. Modernization and innovation are lacking, the union is fighting for old ways: more money does not equate to better outcomes or better productivity. The union mentality is as much of a problem, as the over bloated membership it represents. This could be done far more effectively but no one wants to be brave enough to make that change. In the end, functioning at a loss, with horrible service, Canada Post should be privatized, and much like they did in the US with air traffic controllers years ago – black list everyone who refuses to get on with the requirements of the work, create new opportunity for others, and get on with whatever the New Canada Post could be.

    • You go first. Either let your pay be halved or walk away. Which will it be for you?

    • All roads lead to Ottawa!

    • Irrelevant. Must be city folk. Us in rural Canada that represents over 85 % of the land. No courier or Amazon will ever come here. Bad for business. CP has no choice they have to deliver to us at huge losses. Why is that on them at all. If the govt mandates they must deliver to us the. The govt should be compensating CP. losing money. Then Fire the top 200 who make over 200k a year. What business did they have buying a telly of non operational vehicles at almost a billion dollars for the green initiative , or the building of a 400M+ facility that sits half empty most of the time. Those are investments they tell you but then write them as losses. Cant have it both ways. But as long as the 4000 management group get their bonuses. YES BONUSES ON A COMPANY THAT REPORTEDLY LOST 4B IN 6 YEARS.

  • I wonder if they have considered how many employees will be losing their jobs.
People and businesses that ship parcels will have established an account with a competitor and unless the cost is considerably lower they will possibly stick with the new company.
Most people who weren’t already getting paperless statements have likely switched over.
If they have less revenue, they will have to trim services. Cancels out letter carriers and might have to close smaller offices.
This is not affecting big business but sure is hurting small business at their busiest time.
Seniors especially rely on mail for paperwork not to mention Christmas cards and letters.
There are a lot of minimum wage earners that work just as hard as a postal worker. It’s hard to say how many Canadian citizens support the strike.

    • Their prices are not lower. We are ” the lowest” or right there in comparison. I had to send a package with fedex. I can assure you it was not cheap or cheaper than us. It was highway robbery but people in line there were paying with us on strike. BTW had to send fedex because the other 2 big ones stopped taking packages. Funny how cpc says package volumes down for us but with us not delivering the others have to freeze their shipments due to overwhelming numbers.

  • I think only CPC bosses can go on TV and boast about their company losing millions of dollars and feel proud about it. No repercussions. Nobody tells us how much money they will save by all the changes they want. What happens if there is still loss after all these changes.

    • Which there would still be because they don’t have any idea how to run this company. The money they are hemorrhaging every where from top to bottom but the focus is on going to war against your own employees

  • What about making mail delivery and parcel delivery seperate?
    Canada post – Canada parcel

    • Cupw is trying to grow their business!!!
They are part of a janitor and GIGAFY campaign the last few years. But it’s going to cost 50k employees some pay checks for their cause.

      • CUPW doesn’t care about their “brothers and sisters” they’re just thinking about lining their own pockets. All the dues collected, where does it all go??? You claim to be fighting for us, really? You take our money, don’t give us a say whatsoever in proposals presented, you no where to be seen on picket lines, 9 times out of 10 finding a union rep to solve an issue or ask a question is near impossible. That’s unless of course its election time, then funny enough they show up out of no where. “hey, brother/hey sister, can i count on your vote?” What a joke. Are they there to protect our best interests against the corporate monsters? oh yeah sure they are, if you’re a whiner, if your lazy, if you can’t do the job because of a “restriction”, yes they are there to serve and protect. If you’re hard working, who just wants to do a job and go home at the end of the day and maybe have the occasional issue, are they there for you, NO. “Oh i’ll look into that and get back to you (and never do), or sorry brother/sister there’s nothing we can do about that. “. CUPW is useless, a year to negotiate a fair (not impossible) contract for present members, (all too worried about who maybe hired in the future), members that have paid there dues for years. While you all go on “seminars” or whatever it is you do in Niagara Falls or Cuba. Enough is enough. Just get us a contract, let us go back to work, cause most of us are not independently wealthy and we need our jobs. Like someone else said, let the membership know and vote on what these proposals are, if the majority likes it and votes Yes, we go back to work and if the majority votes No than we continue the fight. But of course the votes have to be counted fairly and by a third party. Come on lets just get it over with already, that’s if there’s actually a job to go back to.

    • We have that already-called purolator which we own. Why not just grow that instead.

      • People fight amongst themselves EVERY DAY on the workfloor…being on strike isn’t “suddenly” making people fight but it is adding to everyone’s stress level…Blame both sides for this

  • Don’t you find it fishy that CPC sold off Innovapost and SCI in January?
Look at all the people still in the board of directors in these two companies and you’ll see the connection to how and why they were sold off.
As a corporate executive you would expect to be making millions, not a measly $500,000. Where is the money to keep up their lavish lifestyles coming from?

  • Why has no one mentioned that the CEO and Chairman of CPC is on Board of Directors of Purolator?
Yes Canada Post owns 91% of Purolator, but it is a total conflict of interest and completely unethical.

Plus, many of the VPs at Canada Post hold positions at other companies who are only care about making profit on the blood and sweat of workers.

Can nobody see what is happening? The people in the top positions at Canada Post are trying to cause the corporation and its employees to go against one another, so they can dismantle it to be sold off for their own business interests such as selling off of properties such as letter carrier depots. That’s why they are pushing SSD and CMBs across the country.

The government needs to step in and get rid of some dead weight on the top to protect Canada Post and its workers from corporate raiders like the CPCs executive management.

    • Many of us do see and in fact have been trying to shed light with these very questions. A public inquiry and media attention is needed to break this open

    • I don’t think it’s unethical. What better than an expert in the parcel delivery business on a board to help guide a company that’s obviously successful.

      • It’s unethical for them to work for competing companies since due the overlapping priorities and the tendency of people to take advantage positions. They use their position to damage the reputation of the other company they work for in order to sell it off for personal gain.
        It is completely wrong.

      • What expert in the parcel delivery business are you referring to? The CEO with an MBA in marketing whose company has seen parcel volume drop in a rapidly growing market? Or the one who gets bonuses for reporting massive losses?

Sure, guide a successful company with someone presiding over a failing one. What could go wrong?

        • How is it the CEO’s fault that the world no longer sends letter mail. How is it the CEO’s fault that a union always strikes at peak to try and leverage the company at the expense of Canadians. Purolator is profitable and yet CPC is not. I say it’s CUPW and it’s crazy demands that killed the company not management.

          • The comment I replied to referred specifically to the parcel deliver business. Canada Post’s significant loss of market share and volume in that business does not qualify the CEO as an expert on it.

As for Purolator being profitable while Canada Post is not, do you think that might have anything to do with Canada Post “losing some big customers to them? What about the volume of Purolator packages that go through our sorting plants and get delivered by us without charging Purolator?

And while lettermail volume will continue to drop, admail and circulars volume is up. How does implementing a system that inherently delays delivery of all admail by at least a day make us more competitive?

Which of CUPW’s demands are crazy? Wanting to catch up to inflation after four years of increases at half the inflation rate for that period? Wanting to pause implementation of a system that is failing miserably on the ground while health & safety concerns are addressed? Wanting permanent positions to be created for weekend deliveries (as already provided for in the collective agreement) instead of shifting to gig work?

  • Put this in perspective as of Tuesday we will have lost 6% of our yearly salary which we will never get back unless we now get a 30% raise, front loaded 12% all for basically fighting for no current employees and to contract cleaners and snow removal.. what do you intend to do with those few employees for 300 days of the year, it doesn’t snow everyday 40hrs a week. And how would they make Canada post money!! Delusional union

  • We the membership have a right and demand to see the last 2 offers from Canada Post before they gave a roll backs offer which I don’t believe until we see it. Canada Post please post the last 2 offers that CUPW hides from us to see if you are negotiating fairly. I highly doubt anything CUPW has done up to this date until we see proof, let us the membership see the offers NOW, you have no right to hide this information from us, enough is enough with your gaslighting… Let’s see the truth if you’re not afraid, so we can see what you’re really demanding and what we’re being offered.

  • Dragged along by cupw

Let this go to binding arbitration, no arbitration would side with someone who won’t budge on the stance that the contracted cleaners join the union.
This was never talked about or in the notes the union presented at the strike vote, but it’s something they are standing on heading into week four. Keep telling me they have the memberships best interest.

    • Binding arbitration will never resolve long-standing issues that can only be resolved by the parties finding solutions that work for both of them, which is why the same issues keep coming back.

We’re in this mess because the parties haven’t negotiated a collective agreement since 2007. But sure, push it off another four years with the same old same old, because there’s nothing insane at all about doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

  • I’m a twenty year carrier having worked in a large city and now a small town. I want to be delivering, especially this time of year when we are needed the most. I feel a sense of service and duty to the public, but am prevented from fulfilling it. I have not had a choice, communication and transparency is lacking – we are not presented the CP offers and are not able to vote on these offers. What is the end game here? Ruin any public sympathy, support, trust by striking through Christmas. Create untold financial hardships on the economy and all who need us plus millions of lost revenue for CP and all of us employees missing pay (a frugal Xmas indeed).

  • If you get tired of making comments ,place a bet with all that money you make from picketing. Vegas odds 10 to 1 strike goes into 2025 ,odds it finishes in 2024…..wait for it 1000 to 1.

  • Both parties are useless talking for 1 year and archive 0 3 weeks of strike and archive 0 and us 4 weeks without a pay check thanks for nothing

  • Both site are useless dreaming to do good but in reality just useless and we pay the price 4 week without a pay check

  • I’m a twenty year carrier having worked in a large city and now a small town. I want to be delivering, especially this time of year when we are needed the most. I feel a sense of service and duty to the public, but am prevented from fulfilling it. • I think it is clear cupw has not been negotiating this past year, this is impossible and ludicrous to believe. We’ve been played guys. So what do we do now?

    • As with every contract…they don’t NEGOTIATE….they play around with ridiculous ideas and live in the 1980s and CPC is just as bad playing coy and not telling the truth of how they’re going to cut their workforce in half by 2026…as soon as this fiasco is over I’m retiring! Can’t wait!👏👏👏

  • Vancouver local released a bulletin stating they will not deliver the socio-economic checks any longer

  • Friendly reminder cupw president got a 19% raise recently, think about that for a moment. This same president complained in the most recent bulletin about having to review the latest cpc offer during the evening and weekend, indoors. $100k/year salary.

  • It’s wrong to do this at Christmas. Our seniors count on their cheque’s and many don’t have auto payments. Also they love their Christmas cards get back to work and strike when it doesn’t hurt our seniors! I cannot support this action to ruin Christmas

    • U r a quality person Ruth

Hey Ruth you are thinking like a person with a good heart ,a conscious and right frame if mind. Too bad those people at cpc and cupw don’t have your strong characteristic traits. Ps. Don’t let em ruin Christmas for you.

    • Oh Ruth, if you only knew how Canada Post manipulated this.
And many letter carriers are volunteering to deliver government cheques, they did in November and they will in mid-December, if this standoff continues.

      • No not volunteer. 50 bucks flat fee forever how many u deliver.

        • The $50 honorarium is required so that any injuries are covered under workers’ comp. Volunteer work isn’t.

        • Well yes it is ‘volunteer’ work and the $50 is called an honorarium. That way Canada Post can get around paying 3hours minimum as required by Canada Labour Code. So no thanks to helping out the union or the company. How about settling the contract instead?

          • It’s volunteer in the sense that nobody has to do it. Volunteer work without any compensation is often not eligible for workers’ comp in the case of an injury. While an honorarium is not pay subject to the usual rules, it does qualify the activity for coverage.

    • Why is it the workers who have ruined Christmas? Do you actually believe the reported losses? Why would a company pay bonuses to executives who are piling up losses? It’s all smoke and mirrors. CPC makes massive amounts of money, 2.3 billion last year in letter mail alone. Yes, letter mail. And as soon as CPC wrings concessions from the union, they will drop parcel rates (because we go to every door anyway) and get back the business they lost and the Albert Jackson plant will be humming along. Don’t think they built that plant and spent another few hundred thousand on new right-hand drive vehicles without having a plan.

    • That’s one thing I miss. I live sending my Christmas cards. Can we please just get this over with already!!!

    • There are many seniors who rely on Canada post to deliver their checks. People in remote communities rely on Canada post to get things they need i.e. medications etc. Also, what about the woman who was on the ctv national news waiting for her father’s ashes that are stuck in the postal system. I really hope they either come to an agreement like in the next couple of days or someone step in and end this mess.

    • Why not get the higher supervisors and managers to go deliver these important letters? If ppl can do without letter carriers, then these supervisors who are getting paid still can deliver these letters
And cheques while offering $50 to letter
Carriers to deliver these letter while supervisors are making their regular wages sitting at home. Makes perfect sense.. it’s CUPW members fault not spending money on wages for employees doing nothing rn.

  • If you think that after 3 weeks and counting, most would vote to go back on whatever crap was offered for the sake of going back, you’re dreaming

    • Really??? Yes I think a lot of people want to get back to work. Unlike you most of us need our jobs!!! Btw we are on week 4!!

    • Well if members could actually see Canada Post’s revised offer and have a chance to vote in it, then we’d have a real answer. But sure just call it ‘crap’ without actually seeing it. I guess you don’t mind losing thousands of dollars to support our great leaders at CUPW.

      • I am suffering through all this just like you. Money will be a big problem not so much this month (yet) but come January different story. All I’m saying is after being out for weeks, going back for the sake of going back will have rendered all this pointless and useless and waste of time and money. I have to keep believing the union knows or is doing something on our behalf that even we might not be aware of as part of strategic negotiating. We need to stay strong and see this through. Many countless others sacrificed for themselves and us in the past.

    • Keep dreaming. You are losing that fight pretty soon… No more unions at CPC period!

  • It’s about time the lazies get the 👢

    • I think CPC should offer buyouts to all us lazy senior staff. We will be knocking down the doors on the way out.

    • Knock it off. Postal workers need to stop attacking each other. The CPC executives and management want us postal workers to fight amongst ourselves.
Postal workers need to stick together regardless of horrible work ethics.
The fat cats want Canada Post to fail and the CUPW is not helping with their constant misguided fight for non postal workers. Just ignore CUPW’s brainless drivel about being blindsided by CPC negotiation tactics.

Postal workers just need to hold the line and spread the word by writing to the government, and social media. We need to hold the culprits of this work stoppage holding Canadian postal system hostage.

  • LAY-offs and termination for management.. they are throwing the ex Canadian tire worker under the bus ..

    • That’s what we will be facing due to CUPW’s failure to negotiate for the members, maybe they should stop looking to benefit themselves…after all we are CUPW’S Boss, but their narcissistic behavior and gaslighting is accepted by most. Congratulations on another failed negotiation, pissing off the membership, Canadians and small businesses.. I’m sure they’ll be ok when they raise our dues for doing nothing again.. 🤡🤡

  • I have an history in regards to changes of collective agreement from my past employer.
ROLLBACK is necessary to grow and sustain the business. My Salary was very far from my other colleague and that’s because i got hired from a latest collective agreement and not the old ones that give high increase per 150hrs. I got my 1st increase when my 1000hr kick in as PART TIME worker which is okay from my situation that time.

    • If rollbacks are necessary, how much is the CEO willing to rollback his salary to set the example? And why are executives still getting bonuses while reporting massive losses? When that happens in the private sector, top management finds themselves unemployed.

      • They dont have lost, they put money into investments and real estate. Those tyrants will keep the money in cash.

      • It’s time the good standing members take control and petition out the Union President and the negotiations. They have proven that have lost the ability to see what’s best for the workers. Iam sorry but not working for this long with no pay cheque’s. Is creating a hardship you can never recover from. CUPW you are losing support very quickly.

  • The labour minister can force a vote. Email your MPs and labour minister.

    Vote on Employer’s Offer

Marginal note:Minister may order vote to be held

183 (1) If the Minister is of the opinion that it is in the public interest that the employees in a bargaining unit be given the opportunity to accept or reject the offer of the employer last received by the bargaining agent in respect of all matters remaining in dispute between the parties, the Minister may

    (a) on any terms and conditions that the Minister considers appropriate, direct that a vote to accept or reject the offer be held by secret ballot as soon as possible among all of the employees in the bargaining unit; and

    (b) designate the Board, or any other person or body, to be in charge of conducting that vote.

Marginal note:Vote does not delay right

    (2) The direction that a vote be held, or the holding of that vote, does not prevent the declaration or authorization of a strike if the employee organization that is certified as the bargaining agent is not otherwise prohibited from making the declaration or authorization, nor does it prevent the participation in a strike by an employee if the employee is not otherwise prohibited from participating in the strike.

  • If we are insisting on fulltime on weekends, then change letter carrier’s schedules… tues – sat and sun – thurs, just like schedules for plant workers. You can’t have it both ways.

    • I’d do that for $35/hr. No problem! But the inside workers should be at a lower wage. Good tradeoff?!

      • When I was a carrier for over 16+ years, I delivered all my items (parcels, passports, and packets) instead of carding everything like most of you carriers, then transferred to the plant during PT, most of carriers don’t know how to do the job properly and don’t deserve $35, nice try Diddy. For those who never letter carried, definitely don’t deserve $35.. CUPW executives and the president don’t deserve our dues for the misrepresentation we’ve had over the years, and having only signed a contract back in 2011 and losing all the others in arbitration, nice record for over 30+ years of negotiations.. what a bunch of malarkey

      • Why should inside workers get paid less??? A lot of inside workers have put in their time. A lot of us inside workers as you put it, used to be outside workers and that’s what we have chosen after years of service. It’s our choice, it’s called seniority and that doesn’t mean we deserve less. You should think before you speak.

      • If it’s SOO bad outside why don’t you transfer inside. You say we do nothing and have it so good. The fact is, outside has it’s perks which you’re not willing to give up.

    • I agree! I’ve always had to work those hours…30+yrs On a rotating basis also…

    • So nobody has a normal life. Stupid idea.

    • Give yourself a gold star soupy. Your idea would ruin everyones work life balance. You ll be manager in no time thinking like that. ..or layed off.

    • Why is it the only way for cpc to supposedly make money is to destroy LC’s weekends and work/life balance. Personally I love seeing my family and grandkids etc on weekends. . If I wanted to work everyday or lose weekends I would have got into retail

  • Just a question for all the educated people here. What is easier, to replace 55,000 workers that actually move the mail, or a CEO and his 23 VP’s?

Do you really think the Government would allow 55,000 people to go on welfare and have to support them?

The days of this management team are numbered, they are just trying to piss us off before they go.

    • 55,000 is already not working… 2 weeks on job interviews and we get back those 55,000 people.

    • Sure the upper management had done a terrible job. But saying that they should be replaced doesn’t help us get an agreement so we can get back to work. The truth is both sides need to compromise. Neither side can expect to get everything they want. Once we’re finally back on the job, I’m sure the government will deal with Canada Post’s failure. 55,000 workers know negotiations require movement from the union and the company. We just want to get back to work now!

      • Why would we compromise to appease current management that put us in this position while also making unreasonable demands that do nothing to fix any issues they caused and keep delaying the strike ending? Get rid of them. ALL of them.

    • Without us (cupw workers) there is no them (mgt, VPs, ceo).

Remember the beginning of Covid? Almost all of our sups were off, maybe scared to be at work, the place never ran better. Managers and above worked from home for 2 years.

They aren’t exactly running anything right now. CP rail trained their managers to run trains at least lol. CPC can’t really run anything. They can’t run machines or sort mail. lol.

      They are dispensable.

      • All union officers should have the choice to walk the picket line and receive strike pay or stay home and not receive a salary. That would encourage them to resolve things quickly.

      • Who will make sure we initialed beside the barcode on our chits, then print out a
Piece of paper asking us to
Rescan? We need these soups to keep
        The wheels turning

      • The sorting machines do the sorting, you just move the lettertainers or monos…you will be replaced due to automation. LC jobs will be cut due to CMBs.

  • So cupw said they would have a response to the latest offer …..it’s almost 7pm and still nothing ! Are they mulling it over or what?

    • CUPW is full of it, they’re stalling and pissing everyone off saying they’re doing their job.. Union doesn’t care for the membership only our money that they steal..

      • Yea… I was very surprised in the cupw latest bulletin that the executives were upset that they received CPCs offer late friday ,apparently disrupting their weekend plans. Come on guys… late friday or early Saturday. That shouldn’t be an issue. You should be well aware of cpc tricks. Maybe you should have left that out. Now cpc has retailiated with the cleaners and contractors info email. Both sides put this childish nonsense aside for the sake of the public, businesses and the workers and finish this.

    • Our union doesn’t really care about the 55,000 workers outside in the cold. We’ve lost 3 and soon to be 4 weeks of pay because our union refuses to compromise. We know neither side can get everything they want. That’s called a negotiation. I wish our union would get over their own giant egos and think of the dues paying members who are suffering now with loss of income. We know the union offices are nice and cozy, but the picket lines are not!

  • Lol, ‘Canada Post is surprised by public comments..’ blah blah blah

    Aww were some feelings hurt?
Now three Companies, CPC, Purolator and UPs have been neutered. Great job exec team.
All you gotta do is sign a contract, then pack your things and go. You’re managing incompetence has been put on full display for all to see

  • Based on the information from the news as of today, why is the Union still opposing more part time positions into the workforce? I can understand full time employees interest need to be protected, but what about those part timers and temporary employees who also wants to have more hours and some benefits. How is this fair to those employees as well?!??! It is not gigafiy the workfoce! It doesn’t make sense! Also I understand that that wage need to be increase, but the offer needs to be realistic too!

  • Master Manipulator

Oh what a shock. My comment about Canada Post will set the record for longest strike in history Nov 15 to Dec 28 , 7 weeks. Previous record was Oct 21 to Dec 2 approx. 1975 , 6 weeks. So let’s all work together to reach this dubious goal!

  • Let the membership vote on whatever the latest offer is
That will give a true representation of what the members want, not what the union wants
If its a Yes, we sign, go back to work, it its a No, then we continue
Either way, the larger population ( the membership that pays dues every month/year, not only in contract years) decides
Or does that make too much sense?

  • Union members fighting with each other. ANGER and desention among workers. Losing faith in cupw. Plan is working perfectly!

    • Black Peter 🎅🏿

Yes. Great work by CPC and CUPW negotiators, executives, managements, and presidents for dismantling Canada Post.
You all should be proud of yourselves.
Thanks for ruining Christmas for everyone across Canada.

      • 100% agree.. the union played dirty and CPC playing the same.. Just imagine how fast we’d be back to work if the union actually only negotiated wages, benefits, and pension and none of the other nonsense..? All BS by CUPW

      • My Christmas isn’t ruined. No one in my family or any of my friends think that this strike has any impact on them. CUPW overestimates the support they have from the majority of Canadians. So maybe you have inconvenienced some people, but apart from rural communities in the middle of nowhere, sadly this is no longer a public service that the public wants or needs.

    • You gleaned that from the moronic comments in here?

  • I have 21 years in and would be more than happy to take a buyout. Thank you !

  • I heard the labour minister can force CUPW to vote on the latest offer. I hope that’s true.

  • CUPW should develop their own banking union and give out loans to all of us out of work.
We’ll pay them back with interest. Honest. 🤞

  • Just wait til we are back hehehehe the fun is gonna be epic! Canada Post did you factor in the cost of pissing off your entire workforce and not bargaining in good faith? You will never recoup those expenses!

  • Show us the offers on both sides. Let the postal workers decide, not some arbitrator or the government.

  • HOW IS THAT OKAY TO POINT THE FINGER AT THE HAND
THAT IS FEEDING THE MOUTH OF 55000 PEOPLE .
CANADA POST PAYS ALL WAGES AND CUPW DOES NOT .
THS BRAINLESS CUPW PRESIDENT AND ALL THOSE AROUND
HER ARE LUCKY THE STICK OF BACK TO WORK LEGISLATION
IS NOT COMING OR AT LEAST NOT YET .
THE STRIKE NOT ONLY HARMS ALL FINANCIALLY , MENTAL
HEALTH IS NEVER ON THE TABLE AS IF IT DOES NOT MATTER .
    YOU JUDGE ,,,,,

    • I’m already 🤪.
I will need to get a work accommodation for PTSD after when we go back to work.
Maybe they can pay me for walking around play with turnaround mail, rts, and drs while going out for smoke breaks every 15 minutes.

    • I earn my pay through hard honest work. I can’t say the same of the management at Canada post. In fact I have no clue what they actually do other than lie in press conferences.

    • You eat scraps. The rest of us will fight it out. ..and shut off the caps lock for goodness sake.

    • Writing in Capitals does not add any weight to your argument. You know how it feels when you give somebody, a person you most likely don’t like, the right to tell you what to do for the rest of your life or 30 -35 years. You basically become a slave.

  • All of you believing this nonsense about the cleaning crew spat out by CPC are the problem! If they bargained fairly on the key things that mattered to the union (wages, safety, no gig work, no rollbacks) nobody would say anything about cleaners. It’s all propaganda and those that are buying into it need to give their heads a shake!
The only government intervention that’s coming is a complete wiping out of CPC (mis)management.
    FIGHT!!

    • Great way to get your fellow postal workers behind CUPW is by blaming them for commenting about “the cleaning crew.”
We ‘re definitely going to side with the union now.
Most of us just want to see both proposal and to vote for the one that makes the most sense to us.
What is the CPC and CUPW afraid of? Are they afraid of losing?
Right now, the biggest losers are the postal workers, the customers and businesses who rely on the public postal system.
Stop stalling and give us a contract that we can decide on ourselves.
WE WANT TO GO BACK TO WORK NOW!

    • I am done with the solidarity BS, I support ARBITRATION

    • It is definitely not a coincidence that the last paragraph of cpcs reply was about the cleaners. They are using this forum to create distraction and division. What they consider a fair offer is take it or leave it chump change. When a real offer is given it will be thoroughly gone over and put forth to a vote. I personally think that this site is doing certain people more harm than good. Consider the fact that it is mostly the same people chiming in on both sides of a single person argument.

      • Show us both CPC and CUPW proposals so we can decide for ourselves.
        We want to vote.
I don’t give a 💩 about the cleaners and snow clearance crew.

      • Absolutely! People that are screaming how badly CUPW are doing feeds right into the narrative Canada Post is feeding them. Stand firm! This fight is not over!

      • Speak for yourself.
You wouldn’t be here if that was the case.
You came here to comment since CUPW doesn’t want to give members a place to express their opinions.

      • Solidarity! We need to stay out as long as necessary to get exactly the deal we want. Now isn’t the time to bend on our convictions.

      • There is never going to be what you call “a real offer” we’ve already had plenty. They are at the max — cupw is out of touch. We are going to be out forever fighting for cleaners that have no bearing on our delivery model, they won’t even make CPC money. All you want is dues, dues and more dues

    • Cupw has cleaners on their website as new members, so it is true. Now stop spreading misinformation Bob.

Wiping out of cpc means wiping out members of all unions too including cupw

  • i think cupw and canada post should show everything to us so we”’ the workers decide what goes or doesnt. dont lose our jobs and benifits trying to form others in the union. do so another time.

  • Let us vote on both CPC and CUPW Proposals.
    We want to vote.

  • SHOW US YOUR PROPOSAL AND LET US DECIDE FOR OURSELVES.
    STOP WITH THE MEDIA CIRCUS 🎪 🤡 🤡 🤡

  • Go try and unionize the cleaning staff and contractors after this is all over.

  • REINSTATE DON’T DEVASTATE, REINSTATE DON’T DEVASTATE!!!! SO SO SO SOLIDARITY!!!!!

I propose we color our hair gold and blue to stand in solidarity with cupw. and if you have not done so please please order a “i support my negotiating team” shirt.

  • The govt is not going to help you this time CUPW. No arbitration. There is only 1 winner in a war.

  • Put a final offer on the table and let the membership vote easy …common sense but hey no side has it

  • I guess someone at CPC didn’t hear us — NO ROLLBACKS!!! NONE! ZERO! NADA! EVER!!!!!!!!

  • CPC tells fairy tales. We shall prevail with our demands.

  • SBrian443@aol.com

My biggest pick up has moved their entire mail room to DHL! The manager told me “we moved so we are not hostages to a Union” wow that is almost a truck load a day gone for good!

  • Why not show us your offer, so we can decide if we want it?

Since most of us have access to mysap to check our pay stubs, CPC can show us the offer and put up a survey to see if we agree on the terms of their proposed contract.

It would be easier than going to some place out of our way and time to vote on a strike mandate like CUPW did where probably only 33% of the 55,000 members voted.

    • I heard less than %25 voted and a number of us that showed up to vote were NOT given a ballot, because we have to sit through a silly meeting

      • Yes, I was forced to sit through that “silly” meeting and given a piece of paper to vote.
When I entered conference room, the girl with blue hair at the entrance walked away and didn’t tell me to sign in.
Plus, I had to pay for parking with my own money.
I found out later on that the union had a sign up sheet for free parking. 🤬

    • Of course that would be great. CUPW will only let us vote when there is an offer their execs approve. That’s always what happens. If members could view Canada Post’s latest offer and we were allowed a vote, it would probably be accepted. CUPWs execs egos would never allow that. Our union really doesn’t care about the 55,000 dues paying members out in the cold losing thousands of dollars. That’s obvious with their refusal to compromise. Our only hope now is the Labour Minister and arbitration. He could also force a vote on the company’s offer. Let’s hope something happens soon, because our union seems clueless!

  • Hey Canada Post I heard your looking for a fight!

REINSTATE DON’T DEVASTATE, REINSTATE DON’T DEVASTATE!!!! SO SO SO SOLIDARITY!!!!!

Sham on you. Shame on you Canada Post. SHAME!

    • SHAME ON CUPW, TOO.
We are all out of work. Many of my coworkers and I barely managing without resorting to working as DoorDash and Uber drivers.

    • Shame on you CUPW. Katt shows us how members in that union thinks….

    • You’re what’s wrong with the union. A 1970’s mentality for a company in the 2020’s. We don’t have a monopoly anymore, our customers just moved on. Well eventually get less than what was offered the week before the union decided we could do without 16 days of pay. But at least you got to wear a sign, shout ridiculous slogans and fight to cost people their jobs.

  • Negotiations over , “Future employees, making cleaners and other outside services part of CPC”…. Unbelievable! Stop playing with us!!!

    • CPC fibbing. CPC refuses to negotiate. If we had a fair deal the cleaner nonsense wouldn’t matter.

    • trust the union brother. this is very strategic and the union pros absolutely know what they are doing. i can’t say more but take my word 😉

      • If cleaners and snow clearance contractors join CUPW, will my union dues decrease by half each month?
        Just asking for a friend.
        Thanks.😊

      • No they don’t, CUPW has shown time after time that there’s zero plan and because of this we lose time after time.

It’s always funny when you finally see pictures of the negotiating teams, Canada Post has a bunch of professionals with law degrees, the union has a bunch of dudes with ponytails and Birkenstocks who took a union course on how to negotiate a CBA.

      • Thank you for your honesty

Of course we take your word. After all you have earned people’s trust and respect. We have reason to take you seriously. Hum?

  • “55,000 strong” but really only representing the interests of the fewest hardcore believers, people that will be hired 5 years from now, and cleaners and snow clearance contractors who have no idea we’re trying to represent them.

    • Great. CUPW wants to represent cleaners, snow clearance contractors and possibly seniors check-in wellness providers for full time positions, benefits and pensions.
Forget the postal workers they represent. This is a great way to grow the union dues collection.

    • future members are the most important as they are in jeopardy we cannot will not give up on them!!!

      • Future employees is not something to be negotiated at this moment. There are other much bigger issues. Why not focus on we have now and not what will happen in decades?! Same this over and over again with this union, last time was RSMC, this time its future employees… CUPW is lost!

        • Because the ones that came before us fought for our rights! It’s mind boggling how selfish so many workers are.

          • No they didn’t. CUPW rolled over and gave up in the last negotiations back in 2021-22.
            They allowed this to happen.
They allowed it to happen back 2011, and 2017.
Now look what we have now.

      • We already did by accepting $7.00/hour less for new hires

      • No, the current members who pay the dues now are the most important. This strike will shrink the corporations business which will lead to fewer future employees, and likely some current employees (terms) losing their jobs.

    • That’s true. Not the workers that have been paying $1200 a year in dues for many years and are now outside with no pay for 3+ weeks. If CUPW actually cared about it’s membership instead of just being ‘right’ they’d compromise and get a deal done. The real workers want to go back to work now!

    • we are trying to be inclusive and look after the less fortunate don’t stand in the way please

  • I wish there was a comment section in CUPWs website, so I can tell them what I think of them for throwing a monkey wrench into our lives.
Unfortunately, there isn’t one, since they want to write their narrative that we all stand in solidarity for whatever foolish decisions they make for us.
I dare them to try to put a comment section up like the one here. What could go wrong?

  • The union badly overplayed its hand, Canada Post has now lost all the Christmas parcel business, CUPW lost the leverage and we now have lost 16 days of pay, for what? It seems like the union just keeps doubling down on a losing battle and costing us money. Any raise we get will already be wiped out by the 16 days of missed pay.

    Can we bring LCUC back?

  • Canada Post has often gone on the televised network’s and publicly made statements on negotiations. You don’t like it when the same is done by the union side?

  • Put both sides in a room nobody comes out until a deal is done. Cant get a deal by Sunday at midnight?? You lose your job and a new team comes in on both sides. Hows that sound

  • Limit the PT/weekend experiment somehow and lets make the deal!

    • Let PT deliver the parcels on weekends- Permanent delivery employees don’t work weekends AND IF it is more cost effective to use PT on the weekend, then go ahead- IF this works, we get more business, which is good for everyone- Canada Post, on the pension just change your wording to: Who ever STARTS paying into the pension after January 1,2026,these employees upon retirement will be eligible for %50/%50 benefits package- leave current employees pensions as is- IF the pay issue is too far apart- Let an arbitrator determine

    • Cupw, stop trying to represent employees that don’t even work here yet- you already set the precedence a few contracts ago by agreeing to have new employees (who after 4-6 weeks do just as good of job) start at a rate at least $7.00/hour rate ( what happened to the law that states equal pay for equal work) – we were told we were NOT taking a pay cut, BECAUSE this only applies to people who don’t work here yet

  • If the sticking point is still weekend parcel delivery why not go with PT, 8 hours Saturday and 8 hour Sunday. 16 hour per week, 32 hour paycheck. I am sure there is a lot of university students that would dream of having a job like that.

  • If you cannot run CPC just windup business and let the employees go somewhere else. During covid, these employees worked hard and did not stop delivery. These employees were neither given hazard pay nor lay off. Did CPC appreciated employees efforts. Now why laying off. Further for bonus of big bosses you have funds and for employees, you have notjing. Due to their hardworking you get bonus, why not decent increase for them. Do they do not have right for nice life? Surprised on CPC behavior.

  • These two sides are like children on a playground. Why don’t both of you take a look in the mirror and figure out who you really are . Start acting like you’re a human being.

  • Government is not coming to save you CPC! Give us what we want or see you in New Year on unemployment line.

  • “With the impact of their strike on employees and customers mounting after three weeks, CUPW remains persistent in their demands to represent people outside their bargaining unit, such as making our cleaning staff, and other contracted support services, permanent Canada Post employees.”

Also CPC also allowed CUPW to secure good deals for future employees “…. What kind of world does CUPW live in?? I’m pro unions but CUPW is getting weirder by the years! Maybe they should leave representation of workers and focus on their social /political issues, a total disgrace!

  • take away the paychecks from the canada post negotiating team and then we will see how fast we all come to a resolution.

  • Widespread sentiment is of mistrust in Canada Post management. They lost their integrity by milking millions and 33% bonuses over and above that. Then shamelessly categorize strategic investments as loss. Top executives need to resign in view of so much losses and leave it for better qualified managers to run it. It’s a top heavy corporation. Need to be investigated about how many in top management are related to each other.

  • Is there anyway that CPC ask empliyees for voting on their offer. The same was done last time by CPC at the time of renewal of contract.

  • Canada Post you are not trustworthy now that you do more rollbacks you want to do negotiate private. All along you were negotiating in pubic opinion what changed? Grinch

  • CPC went backwards.
Instead of trying to guarantee more full time positions, they offered more part time and casual positions.
Hence, if you are part time or casual, you will never get a full time positions with all the benefits and pension the current and past full timers get.
It would probably better getting a part time position with DoorDash or Uber since you will need to supplement your income.

    • How is a part time at uber and door dash better than a part time at Canada Post? Please enlight us Mr Genius. Are you saying door dash part time employees do tax fraud?

      • It isn’t.
They are trying to say a part-time employee at Canada Post will need a secondary part-time job to make up for never being full-time.
With jobs like Uber, DoorDash, Skipthedishes, and Fantuan, there is a potential for drivers to get cash tips from customers that you can possibly hide as income from the government.
The same as when you’re delivering your routes during Christmas and you get generous tips or gifts from your customers.
I think the most I got during Christmas was around $500 in tips.

  • We all know it’s CUPW ruining Christmas for Canadians, for their own greedy agenda.
Sincere thank you for your service Canada Post, and Merry Christmas from all Canadians

  • $100 million Can you feel it!!!!

  • Well, I was surprised that CP took 10 months to even make a wage offer, that your spokesperson said that people really want multiple jobs with little hours, and no DB pension, and that I heard about the “framework offer” through all sorts of media before the union. But hey, life is full of surprises, isn’t it?!

  • I don’t listen to either side.

  • Funny, you wait for months and make no offer and are now whining after no response for a few days. You have held thousands of workers and families in limbo. In the past you have been too reliant on the government of the day to pass back to work legislation. Next time maybe be more proactive and start the ball rolling earlier.

  • Shame on Canada Post negotiators, the CEO, and everyone involved for prolonging the strike and causing unnecessary suffering for the hardworking CUPW members.

  • $100 Million, Nice quick response Canada Post, Just as I suspected.

  • “CUPW remains persistent in their demands to represent people outside their bargaining unit, such as making our cleaning staff, and other contracted support services, permanent Canada Post employees.”

    You’re damn right!!!!

  • I wonder why the mediator AND the federal government don’t just say enough is enough AND IF both sides are so confident in their respective positions- Just have the government legislate cupw back to work AND let an arbitrator decide- Give the arbitrator the power to take the good ideas from both Canada Post and CUPW to come to a settlement. Canada Post and CUPW would work under the current collective agreement until the arbitrator renders a decision

    • Well said, majority of CUPW wants to go back to work.

    • Yes I fully agree and I’m sure 90% of us stuck outside also agree. Both sides have proven to be spoiled children who can’t get over their egos enough to rea h an agreement. It seems arbitration is the only hope, as usual. We all want to get back to work now!

  • Confidential?? Tell that to your PR guy who is spewing misinformation and alsol looks like a fool when he’s been questioned several times on the losses at Canada post. Never seems to answer the question.. hmmmm.

  • Let’s get a deal done. Both sides need to buckle down.

    • Cpc has nothing to lose. Cupw finance will be depleted if this continues. I bet they will accept any offer next week because if they do not, govt will not step in and it will continue until next year….

  • Show your new offer(s). If there are no rollbacks and some improvements members will want to vote on it. Stop trying to abuse weekend delivery, something that may help the company longer term but is hardly a save-all.

    • CUPW won’t show Canada Post’s latest offer or let members vote on it. Because we’d probably vote yes.

      • You would have voted yes before the strike started. I have studied the offer and it is not a good deal. It a fair deal and you would have had a steady income stream with benefits for the next 4 yrs. Cupw would not allow this. Aren’t you glad they didn’t allow you to vote.
