Canada Post received responses to our global offers from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) on Sunday and will review them in detail.
After almost two years of negotiations, a lengthy national strike and the release of the final report of the Industrial Inquiry Commission, it’s now time for urgency and we will respond in short order. The impact of the ongoing uncertainty on our business is significant, but the impact on the Canadian economy is greater. By the end of last week our delivered parcel volumes were down by 50% over this time last year and continue to drop.

Heres a factoid. Seeing as theres comments about benefits, because union exs are on union leave without pay, cupw provides these members with their own paid benefit plan (used to be green sheilds). And… at 100% coverage! And… while on strike! How nice is that! So much for being on par with the fellow worker . As far as them getting paid while on strike, not sure. Ive heard they are and theyre not. But honestly…. if they were getting paid, i dont think theyd be honest enough to admit it. The struggle continues…..
I believe Canada post workers are behaving like MitcMarner they want so much money yet don’t want to do the work in my area the mail delivery is awful even my mail is not being placed in the mailbox it’s on the grass wet really come on be happy you guys have a job and good pay stop complaining so much be proud Of your job stop making so much demands when you aren giving 100%

I don’t think any employees of Canada Post think the government owes them a living. Sounds like you know next to nothing about the many different jobs Canada Post workers perform. I’m sure whatever job (if you are employed) you do requires incredible education and skill. I’ll bet you earn every cent of your salary. Well surprise, other workers also have a right to ask for improvements to their working conditions and wages. Here’s an observation. We here in Toronto at the Plant do not see any portable toilets. Last November we had plenty of them. So that indicates Cupw won’t strike. Unless you wanna do your business on the sidewalk. Um.
I would like to thank Canada Post for showing us what they were offering. If I had my way I would have voted yes. Our Union is out of date and must be crazy if they think that change is not needed. They are stuck in the 80’s. The Union has tied Canada Posts hands at every turn. The crap I have seen co workers get away with is atrocious. The Corporation needs to run a business. I thank my luck starts I have a job that pays good. The last few weeks have been absolutely nerve racking. Not knowing what is going on from our Union. They are supposed to be there for EVERY worker but all theu can think about is 1 group. 1 group that needs to be changed and brought up to date. I wish I could work 4 – 5 hours and get paid for 8. That does not happen in the real world. I hope that Canada Post offers another contract to the Union with a mandatory vote. Let’s get this done. We are losing tons of business.

We’re in the middle of a recession, yet it’s the executives—who claim to know what’s best for us—making all the decisions. How did these individuals even end up in charge? They’re steering the company into the ground, seemingly without concern, because most of them plan to retire within the next two years. Frankly, I’d rather have a circus clown negotiating our contract than people who lack the qualifications and education to represent us, especially when they’ll continue receiving full pay during a strike and then quietly retire a few months later.

Do you still have faith in our bargaining team? Because I don’t. I’ve completely lost trust in them, and I believe their decisions are jeopardizing the future of our jobs.
Let’s not forget—the push to eliminate door-to-door delivery was fast-tracked due to the mess they caused last December. It’s time we all admit that Canada Post needs to evolve, but not at the cost of our future or without our input.
We shouldn’t be blindly following. These executives and our union leadership are speaking on our behalf without genuinely listening to us. This feels more like an ego-driven power struggle than real leadership. They’ve never wielded this kind of authority before, and it’s showing—in all the wrong ways.
If you’re content being a follower, go ahead. But I’m not a follower, and I’m certainly not a puppet for union executives who operate like a dictatorship. Our voices are not being heard, and it’s time we change that. I am not supporting no cause of theres.
Even if you can’t do it, sign your name for overtime. If a strike happens, don’t show up and support it for the 60-dollar strike pay. I have no faith in the negotiating team. I am not against unions, but the team we have are useless and only driven by ego. The problem is our executives and president.

Agree 100%. I definitely will not be supporting them if we strike. They’re playing with our lives. If they want support, they could wave our dues for the time we’re out, instead of paying a laughable $60 strike pay, then, collect back union dues missed when on strike. These negotiations are ridiculous. 2 years???? Who ever heard of such a thing? Why don’t they spend their money to hire a professional lawyer to negotiate for us. Someone who actually knows what they’re talking about , instead of some executive that was once a lc and no clue about labor laws. The whole structure of the union is ridiculous. 7, 8 or however many there are, vice president’s?? Why is that necessary?? So all the friends can vacation together?? There needs to be a change, enough is enough.
Yes, CUPW’s expiration date has long since passed. They are a bunch of uneducated bums, who by the way have probably never worked an honest day’s work in their entire lives. They don’t represent me or the roughly 55,000 colleagues of mine.
I was more than happy with the last global offer that the company presented to us. The only issue I might have is the potential implementation of dynamic delivery which would be al logistical nightmare for the company and it would be bad for Letter Carriers as there would no longer be a sense of ownership on walks as one would no longer own their own walk.
As far as part timer’s doing parcel delivery on weekends, this is a must have for the company. The union needs to wake up as the company is virtually insolvent.
Finally I would like to thank the company for giving me an opportunity to voice my opinion. Something my union doesn’t provide me with on their national website.
Oh yeah, as for the people that think I’m not an actual employee, well you’re dead wrong. I’m just a very frustrated letter carrier who is a CUPW member in good standing.

Where is the 2024 annual report?
I been waiting for a while to hear about it. Thought it could have been the strike in Nov/Dec that delayed the report. However, we are into Q2 and nothing on Q4/24, 2024 full year and Q1/25. Numbers going to be ugly, so why doesn’t CP come out and show it as part of their reasons to make changes.
with Canada Post the Audited Q4 is the only one you can really rely on. With the Stamp price increase and the elections. I suspect it might be better then expected.
Its early to tell but I think mail to businesses Has dropped and maybe registered mail with the 50% price increase.
In economics the gain on price increases if to steep is temporary at best.
The Government needs to table the 2024 Annual Report in Parliament before it can be published. With the election called at the end of March, the House wasn’t sitting so there was an inability to table it. They are sitting today, May 28th, so if our report is tabled, it can be released later today. Q1 will follow suit – the Annual Report needs to be published before Q1.

So, Canada Post refuses a truce of 2 weeks for the union to go over the offer and the union replies 48 hours later only for Canada Post to be silent the next 48 hours? Where is the urgency?

I am sorry for the more than half of CUPW members who feel the captivity and their disconnect with the union. During the 2018 strike, I called the Teamsters and asked about the process of having them take over. It is not easy, but it is doable. Nevertheless, having observed for forty years how CUPW operates, it is worth trying. This union will drive Canada post to the ground. They are on a mission of self destruction.

The chances of CP surviving is very small. There are too many working at CP that should have been fired long ago and the people that do their Jobs well, are badgered until they become bad actors.
As soon as I entered my facility I knew something was wrong when during my 3 days of training they said the emergency exits and other safety information would be done on the 3rd day not the first day. I just recently determined that they really don’t care about safety they just act like they do to harass the workers.
CUPW NEB has failed us.
They have no idea how to negotiate for what really matters. Take them out of the equation, give a best offer to members and let us vote.

The counter proposal that was given by the NEB on sunday to CPC why it was not shared with the members? where is the transparency? why not come to the members and ask to vote for the global proposal that CPC offered rather than decding on their own. Once you question them you are the enemy of the union and is sidding with CPC. This is how pathetic our union is.

look at toronto local, have not seen them in depot or in the plant but they are fast to collect thousands in travel expenses every moth. At this critical time they should be on the floor engaging with members, knowing what we want rather than forcing their decision on us.

Well at least that would produce an agreement. Better than years if negotiating where the two sides meet for two hours once every few months or so and never reach an agreement.
We don’t need , 5 min wash up times, we don’t need new hires to have the same pension and benefits as we have at least not at this moment( new hires , like we that got hired after 2014, have the choice to apply for CP or not) , we don’t need future employees to make 34$ as inside workers ( cap it at 25$)
We need to still get paid per piece NM mail. Not getting paid for NM is disrespectful specially for those breaking their backs carrying NM around.

So today you want the 5 minute wash up time gone which totals 15 minutes for each ft route. Well, be assured that in 2028 when your back in this same position it will be the half hour paid lunch cpc will want to take away. That will add another half hour to each route, making the total 45 minutes. Splendid. I guess your future post saying let cpc have it will read much the same. Genius.

Doubt they have to pay upfront or pay a percentage of anything. Probably 100% coverage and direct billed for everything.
Actually, management employees do pay a shared amount to be a part of the benefit plan, with CPC paying a partial amount
I also not have 100% paid, for example, eye glasses are allowable every four years, after using the covered amount of $300. my personal cost was 900.00 out of packet.

You seem to be operating under the impression that all head office folks get the same benefits as executives. I assure you that most of us do not. We have same or worse benefits than you (depending on their position and/or when they were hired).

Canada Post executives are in conflicted of interest since 6 of them are also on the Purolator board of directors.
The IIC is flawed since it failed to mention that.
They have already transferred many of our customers over to Purolator to decrease our parcel volume.

CP owns 91% of Purolator , why does the same package to the same address with Purolator cost $200 but only $28 with CP ? I don’t know what kinda scam this whole thing is but you can be sure that’s exactly what it is
As a 20 year employee/retiree, CPC relationship between management and its employees is absolutely deplorable. Working conditions are toxic, with management abuse, theft of employee personel time, collective agreement misuse……without regard or empathy for anyone’s well being.
A change is long over due, but start at the top!

I’ve never been part of anything like this between Cpc and Cupw.Being a foreignor from Canada ,working in Mississauga and living in Toronto,this is exciting. Yes I have 3 passports and speak 2 languages English and non English. And 1 very big mortgage. Get a deal now.
The only union in Canada that never lets members vote on a deal…..Cupw negotiation team is not capable of doing the job, we need a real team at the table
I really do not understand this concept. although I am told that over 95% of CUPW members who did get out and vote, voted in favor to allow the union control over the vote.
I am not in a union at the moment but have been, for most of my career, i have found that the only group who stands to gain when there is Strike is the Union.

Rumour has it the union says anyone doing OT during the ban will be fired from the company. Since when has the union been paying our wages. If anything we the workers pay them (the Union)

CUPW raises its fees every year 5% at least. This year (2025) was 12.4% increase which is $5.7 million income every month. They have been around for 60 years. The union fees are mandatory like or not you pay. People ague that the money is used for training, facilities and negotiation. Ironically, There is absolutely no report or details on where the Billions in collection goes. CUPW and CPC have their own agenda and no one cares for the employees.
The fees should be a percentage of earnings so it’s tied to how much folks work. Some temps barely work so most of the money goes to cupw.

Letter carriers get 8 hours pay every week day.
Letter carriers in Moose Jaw have a specific route to finish. Many days they can finish early and the get on the golf course. Good job if we could all get one.
If you think it’s so great and cushy, why don’t you apply? Please enjoy walking around for hours every day in Moose Jaw when it’s -30 for weeks at a time.

Why should a LC be paid to deliver junk mail to a house they already have time values to deliver to. You complain about Mgt getting a bonus. LCs get a bonus every time they deliver a piece of junk mail. NM bonus pay is apples to apples comparison to mgt bonus. The biggest issue is the accident rate. If employees made better choices and actually work safe. How about actually show up and work instead of always calling in sick.

Canada Post is a joke and lying to the public. In 2023 they “lost” 748 million but also somehow spent 743 million on infrastructure and rolling out SSD. The remaining 5 million “loss” was more than made up for in management bonuses

One strike already within a year. Canada Post is subsidized by the government and tax dollars. How do employees expect higher wages and raises than most others working every day who don’t get raises or benefits? Canada Post is broke and has been for many years, for any other company, that would mean bankruptcy and all employees loosing their jobs. Our area is all community mail boxes for several years now and our postal carrier is done work before 2pm daily yet being paid for a full work week. Each set of 4 boxes only takes between 5 & 10 minutes to complete, that used to be a full days walking route. Sorry but no sympathy here. Rest of us have no benefits, 2 weeks vacation time, less stat holiday days off, longer working hours and less pay also.
We are not paid by tax dollars and if you don’t get the same stat holidays as us… what is wrong with you?

I got an idea, sell the post office to the union.
Canada Post’s employees simply get paid too much now. It may not be enough but the reality is more and more carriers like Uber and Amazon are popping up and cost half the price and are twice as fast. The argument about working outside and danger is no greater than construction, another of Canada’s larger individuatries. Sorry union, that’s the new reality! I know it’s not fair but you can’t squeeze milk out of a dead cow!

CPC charges significantly less than our major competitors like UPS, FedEx, DHL and Purolator. This is information that can be independently verified, by typing a parcel dimension and weight into their respective websites, and selecting an originating and destination address. It’s unfair to set prices below cost and then asking your employees to take less pay because we are losing money. CPC will still be the lowest cost option by far even if we were to raise prices by 20%. Just by doing that will erase the operating deficit.

unlike PSAC also a Canada post union but these employees make much lower wages, less vacation time, hours chopped and can not retire with dignity as they don’t receive a proper pension really pathetic so seeing CUPW protect their clam is amazing and I hope they stay strong and get what is deserved!! As retired Delivery Agent i cannot understand the Unions position. The Titanic is sinking ,CUPW received defined benefit pensions for current and new hires , the same benefits and 7 weeks of vacation for senior members as the seniority goes up , the Union keeps the 6 weeks of pre-retirement for the members. The Kaplan Commission made it clear management has the right to manage. The Union wants full-time work , well management is also giving that by making sure that current and future Delivery Agents actually work 8 hours for 8 hours of pay , with the new route systems management is also giving that to the Union because as it sits now many Carriers work 4 or 5 hours and get paid for 8 , would the Union prefer to have management pay for hours worked only or does the Union want to protect full-time work by actually allowing management to do that. Look management has the right and duty to manage, the Unions job is to make sure workers are paid a fair wages with good benefits in a safe workplace and environment.
Canada post is so unreliable as it is…there is fat to trim for for sure not just at the top…I get more flyers then actual mail … most business are ebills…
Find that is a whole lot easier to file then paper….who needs mail delivery…parcels are delivered by couriers for a lot less cost…don’t think there are many $30 an hour couriers…they are happy to have a job…get real for a change…

so if you want to know why the union did not accept the latest proposal from management, it’s really very simple, buried deep in the 700+ pages of this proposal, are a number of undefined, unknown items that the company wants the union to accept and that these items will be defined at a later date. What person on the planet would accept that kind of offer? Based off of their last 30 years of actions, you cannot trust these items to be good for the employees.

And this has been the practice of cpc to have their ceo and other cpc board members sit on the board for purolator for at least the last 20 years. And cupw, to my knowledge, has never challenged this in court or otherwise. Stunning.
It’s not about CEO, Purolator has the largest rural network after Canada Post. By default parcel should go to Purolator due to footprint.
Canada post customers are redirecting their parcels to UPS, FedEx and Purolator to avoid delays because of this potential strike.
Purolator *was* Canada Post, but they were forced to separate to companies… ultimatley removing Canada Post’s profitable arm… the fact they are using them now as an alternative is in now way surprising and expected.

management get bonus for performance based compensation as part of their employment contract, if you are upset about that you should have applied to get a management job, that is if you have the education for it. CUPW gets a bonus daily by working 3 hours and getting paid 8. You are also allowed to work overtime whereas MGT has no overtime opportunity. Stop crying about other employee groups when your group is the one responsible for a majority of the coorporations financial losses.
The electric vehicles are not the problem. Do you realize they’ve spent $120,000 per vehicle on the new C250 that they purchase from a company in the states. They get the equivalent of eight or nine miles per gallon. Work this cost out over a 10-year ownership

Agree 100%, delays delays. Let’s get on with it. They’ll be starting to negotiate the next contract soon and the b.s. will continue. I agree we deserve more money, I agree CPC waists money than cry poor, I also think CUPW doesn’t care, they’re worried about more dues. Both sides need to get it together, let’s put the offer to a vote, have a third party witness when counting the votes and let’s get this done. The uncertainty is hurting everyone.

Did you read Kaplan’s report? Calls out CUPW for main reason why negotiations are failing. Walking away from a party who can’t realize times have changed and they need to arrive to the year 2025 and look forward…does CUPW see the need for true change? Does CUPW realize if there is no work there are no jobs? Stop trying to tell CPC how to make money and look in your own house first on where you can help.

Both parties are to blame for this, a complete embarrassment for Canadians and the workers of Canada Post. This should have been solved a year ago. Mgmt should be fired and the union should have an election or possibly a new union. There are many ways to fix this while still treating workers with respect and remaining profitable and providing regular service (less service than 5 days a week) to all Canadians.
It’s time for urgency and will respond in short order. It took over 2 yrs ,a strike ,loss of credibility,respect and trust from businesses ,public not to mention workers and urgency has now set in with short order response. I’m an LC, and I want the reverse of this comment. I don’t care about the wash-up time; that can go, and just because nobody pays a decent wage for inside workers doesn’t mean we should too. Separate plans for pension and benefits mean higher costs to you.
