CUPW tentative agreements: On the path to restoring and strengthening the business

May 19, 2026, 01:48 pm

We know how challenging the last few years have been for our employees, our customers and those who rely on the postal service. We are at a turning point. Canada Post is now focused on stabilizing operations, modernizing the network and rebuilding the business.

Canada Post and CUPW have reached tentative agreements that balance meaningful wage increases and enhanced benefits for employees with the organization’s need to modernize and restore service confidence. These tentative agreements – which continue to protect employees’ job security – are one way the Corporation is working to address a number of operational and market challenges.

Gearing up for a critical peak season

The labour uncertainty throughout 2024 and 2025 had an impact on the company as customers shifted their business to other carriers. Volumes in the first quarter of 2026 continue to be low as we slowly start to regain business with customers of all sizes.

The upcoming peak season will be an important period operationally. We’ll have an opportunity to demonstrate to Canadian businesses that they can count on us to deliver. With commercial customers preparing their peak season shipping and mailing plans in June and July, providing reliable service and a positive experience will be essential.

Rebuilding our customer relationships

Volumes will be slow to win back as we continue to operate in a competitive parcel delivery market. Smartmail Marketing customers have also shifted marketing budgets to other forms of media. In response, we’re focused on providing the service our customers expect and going to market with strategic pricing to help win back volumes.

Giving customers a reason to choose us again

As you know, we’ve started to hold important meetings with bargaining agents on our multi-year transformation. This transformation supports longer-term operational objectives to help us win back business, restore trust and give customers a reason to choose us again.

Voting on the tentative agreements

The voting process is still underway for CUPW-represented employees to vote on the tentative agreements. If you haven’t yet voted, check the CUPW website for the voting information for your local.

Stay informed

We recognize this ratification process is an important period for employees. Our approach is to communicate transparently and provide reliable information as the process moves forward.
