Update on the Industrial Inquiry Commission and negotiations with CUPW
April 8, 2025, 11:31 am
We wanted to provide employees with an update on the labour process currently under way with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW).
The Industrial Inquiry Commission’s (IIC) hearings have wrapped up. The Commissioner’s report and recommendations will be submitted to the Minister of Labour by May 15, 2025, and we’ll share information about the report as soon as it’s available.
While the parties met during the IIC process, the negotiations broke down and the parties could not come to a resolution.
Collective agreements remain in effect until May 22
At the end of 2024, when the national strike was paused for the IIC work to take place, the existing collective agreements between Canada Post and CUPW were extended until May 22, 2025. This means a labour disruption could occur as early as May 22, 2025 (but not before this date).
Why we need change
During the CUPW negotiations and IIC hearings, Canada Post put forward urgent changes that are needed in the way the company operates and delivers. The changes Canada Post has proposed are critical to sustaining the business over the long term and providing more affordable, consistent and reliable service for customers.
