As you are aware, Canada Post has received strike notices from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), for both Urban and RSMC (Rural and Suburban Mail Carriers) bargaining units. The notices indicate that CUPW intends to begin strike activity as of Friday, November 15 at 12:01 a.m. ET, unless the parties reach agreements before then.
While Canada Post and CUPW continue to negotiate, progress has been slow and lacking on major issues. The ongoing possibility of a labour disruption has been significantly eroding Canada Post’s volumes and escalating the negative financial impact on the company. The Corporation must now take further steps to respond, using the means provided in the Canada Labour Code, while continuing to operate.
Canada Post has notified the union and CUPW-represented employees that unless new agreements are reached, the current collective agreements for both the Urban and RSMC bargaining units will no longer apply as of Friday, November 15 at 8 a.m. ET. The Corporation will then be in a legal position to introduce new terms and conditions of employment for all CUPW-represented employees.
Under the new terms and conditions, the Corporation will:
- adjust staffing levels in operations to reflect operational realities, including but not limited to layoffs as well as reductions in the number of on-call relief employees;
- adjust leave provisions and benefits in line with the statutory minimum conditions established under the Canada Labour Code.
Canada Post’s goal throughout these negotiations with CUPW has always been to reach negotiated agreements, without any labour disruption. The company remains committed to proceeding with urgency to reach agreements.

It’s official, Strike!
Why didn’t the union ask for our opinion in regards to the offer made by Canada post. 5% was great deal yet the union wants more money in THEIR pockets. They never asked us and then came back with 9%. WTF
Exactly, they have no idea how to negotiate, how can they expect to go from 5-9% they are obviously uneducated when it comes to Negotiations
Give me a good buy out and we all can leave.
Why is it when an offer is made, we don’t get to vote if we accept or not?
Hahaha, Canada Post follow under Canada labour code??? Are you sure? Canada Post has their own policy which can terminated anyone without need follow to Canada Labour Code to pay terminated pay or any kinds of severvance pay. Canada Post policy can against Canada Post code. The Corporation must now take further steps to respond, using the means provided in the Canada Labour Code, while continuing to operate.??? Canada Post HR saying Canada Post has their own policy rights which can against Canada labour code.(When you get fire without cause Canada Post own policy will not pay anything to you. Canada Post saying their policy no such terminated pay and severvance pay). But Canada labour code saying must pay those . You fool me once shame on you, you fool me twice shame on me.
Hahahaha, lock out please too cold outside……. Close Canada Post forever. Everyone go home enjoy early X’mas, Black Friday shopping
Hahaha you believe CUPW cares while they get paid and we don’t haha, the only clown is you.. Union dragged this over a year to fail again so it would go to arbitration and then blame CPC.. Yay bunch of clowns who couldn’t negotiate out of a paper bag
100% useless union.. all they want is dues and to spend our money
if Canada post had come to the bargining table before with the wanting of a new collective agreement and not claiming POOR the whole time then maybe this wouldn’t be happening now. but now you are claiming even POORER cause there would be no work stoppages
If we had a union that knew how to negotiate we wouldn’t be in this situation now.. 30+ years of failed negotiations.. Wake up, you guys were only contractors to begin with.. Blame the corporation for the pathetic unions failure, good job deflecting.
