Employees represented by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) will soon have a chance to vote on Canada Post’s final offers for the Urban and RSMC (Rural and Suburban Mail Carriers) bargaining units.
We know employees have a lot of questions about the vote, and we will share more information as soon as it’s available. Here’s everything we know so far:
About the vote
On June 12, the Minister of Jobs and Families approved Canada Post’s request for a vote to take place on the Corporation’s final offers to CUPW, exercising her authority under section 108.1 of the Canada Labour Code. This means CUPW-represented employees in the Urban and RSMC bargaining units will have the opportunity to vote and have their voices heard.
Employees in the Urban bargaining unit will vote on the Corporation’s offer to Urban employees. Employees in the RSMC bargaining unit will vote on the offer to RSMC employees. If a majority of employees who vote accept the offer, it will become the collective agreement for that unit.
How will the vote be administered?
The vote will be administered by the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB). We will share more information about the voting process as soon as it’s available.
What is the CIRB?
The CIRB is an independent administrative tribunal. Its job is to resolve workplace disputes and certain appeals under the Canada Labour Code and related legislation.
When is the vote?
The Minister has directed the CIRB to administer the vote as soon as possible. We will share more details on exact timing as they become available. Continue checking canadapost.ca/offers for the latest information about the vote.
What will I be voting on?

Due to the fact that I figure get ahead of the came. I have looked in to other jobs. They don’t give Benefit’s, you have to work nights and weekends, no pension. I Enjoy this job. If we don’t get a contract signed, we are not going to have a JOB! Get it done! I’m VOTING YES!
Just a reply to SS1 Pitt Meadows. As an RSMC we deliver very few parcels to the door so already dont make any money there. Currently we dont get overtime unless we work more than 40 hours per payperiod and since many of our routes measure at less than 7 hours per day that usually means we get no overtime. And time values are a laugh – a year ago we were told by CP and our Cupw rep that we had to start delivering our parcels to the sub outlets ourselves and would be getting no time value for it ! Bring on the change. I will vote yes.
Its yes for me.
Dont let the Cupw reps bully you. Vote however you feel works best for you. I will just be glad to see this fiasco come to an end.
The way I see it is the urban carriers are all bent out of shape because with the new offer they would loose their ability to work for 4 hours, get paid for 8 then pick up another full time shift that is only 4 or 5 hours of actual work and with overtime they get paid for 20 hours doing only 8 or 9 actual work time. Yeah, no wonder Canada Post is having a tough time being profitable. I will vote yes to the offer.
Cupw has always treated us RSMCs as second class workers and I will be voting yes. Over the years I have seen Canada Posts business decline, some of which is the companys fault but mostly due to the internet and influx of many courier companies. There is no doubt that changes are needed for CP to stay afloat but if it means that we can still have our good paying jobs in the future then it is worth it.
I’m going to vote no.
Canada Post is the bully. Stand up it’s not about cupw it’s the government that is ordering the vote. The harassment and bulling will only get worse for people with seniority. The new employees can do no wrong when they cost a lot less.Stand up to government it’s about the way they did this to eliminate your job.
No to this I won’t be divided. Thank you CUPW this is a ruthless employer.
This ruthless employer has given you an amazing job with excellent benefits and a pension. CPC signs your paychecks, not CUPW. If you think CPC is ruthless then quit and go work literally anywhere else. You’ll see very quickly that this is truly an amazing job. Go work for Amazon and then let us know if you still think CPC is ruthless.
CUPW is the problem, killing good jobs
YES YES YES YES YES YES YES
I’M VOTING YES
NO VOTE!
VOTE YES
I wii be voting yes to the final offer.
I am voting yes to the final offer
In our mail processing station the union reps have been bulllying people and making threats about losing our jobs to try and intimidate us into voting no. That is so wrong ! Everyone should be able to freely vote whatever they feel is right for themselves.
Union reps trying to get folks to understand what is actually happening is a good thing. I can’t wait for the whining to begin once folks learn that they are actually losing money with this new contract. Good luck to you.
A no vote will likely lead to a lockout and then binding arbitration just like last time our contracts were expired and the time before. Everytime we ended up with less than what had been offered and no signing bonuses. As a union member it should be our right to vote and I will be voting YES !
Over the last couple of weeks the dollar value of the postage on the few letters and parcels I had to sort and deliver wouldnt even add up to cover my wages. I can see why Canada Post is needing to make changes to try and become more profitable. I read over the offer and I will be voting yes.
Attention fellow RSMCs. I you want to read it, the full offer can be downloaded by logging into mysite.canadapost.ca and go to intrapost. I am glad the government finally forced the union to allow us this vote. Overall it seems mostly like a decent offer and I will be voting Yes.
Good luck. What you don’t know is that the changes to the route measurement system will result in 30% lower time values, so any financial gains are going to be lost immediately. It isn’t just about the rate of pay. This is going to result in job losses as routes are restructured, you are losing your per piece payments for parcels as they will be delivered by the new part time positions.
NO JOB losses in this offer- Guaranteed for the life of this contract, JOB SECURITY for ALL current PT and FT employees. There will be some positions gone- BUT new positions are being created ” Routers (SSD sorters) AND so what about time values- The ONLY time value is getting paid for working a FULL 8 hours. BUT from a safety perspective AND to improve efficiency- Canada Post should put in AND implement CMB’S BEFORE SSD and dynamic routing is put in place
What’s decent about load leveling??
I will be voting no. This is why….
No to discipline for injuries on the job,
No to cutting off benefits for workers who were in cancer treatments,
No to the interference in our
strike action,
No to having Purolator do our work instead of bargaining fairly,
No to the tolerance of harrassment and turning a blind eye on the work floor,
No to dismissals without cause,
No to lack of accommodation of the differently abled,
No to the lack of accessibility in the workplace ,
No the the deletion of jobs and insufficient staffing,
No to giving the boss yet another bonus when they claim the company is insolvent ,
No to the tearing down of the public service and the small businesses that will fall with them,
No to the trampling of rights and freedoms ,
The answer is NO to your forced vote without even seeing all the details you’ve hidden.
CPC….you’ve put all your eggs in this basket??
Looks like scrambled eggs on the menu!!
Let me know when the vote takes place I need to book my trip to Cuba.
If we vote no it will go to arbitration where we will get nothing less then this final offer.
Minus the 1k bonus
That’s not True, you will get less because CIRB report is involved and they will see financials of company, so don’t think for a minute a No vote will get this offer. In 60 years CUPW has only successfully negotiated 2 contracts.. Not good odds, and the union will blame everyone else when we get worse but will never blame themselves or take accountability for what they’ve done.. NO will secure a lot less, no signing Bonus, removal of personal days, forced overtime, no route ownership.. It will get worse..
How do you know that will happen? During the Harper years there were several arbitrations that went to ‘final offer selection’. Canada Post gave a new, worse offer but because CUPWs offer was always unreasonable the arbitrator would always choose the company’s offer. We always ended up with less.
In my 20 years arbitration has never got less, in fact sometimes it has gotten more. Cheers.
No! I will not vote for PT jobs over FT jobs!
BUT we will probably be locked out for 4 to 8 weeks until parliament reconvene in September BEFORE arbitration would be heard-AND even if cupw wins some of the points like a bit more of a pay raise- with the 5 week strike and a possible lock out, we would be much farther behind than accepting the current offer
Dear Canada Post Leaders!
Is there any way to keep what the RSMCs have right now?
I really would appreciate if we could keep the basic pay per route system instead of an hourly rate of pay system.
I agree with this
It’s a BIG YES YES YES YES!!!!!!
Cupw makes this fight for Urban, not for RSMC. But whatever, it’s a BIG YEZZZZZ
